El Huerto de las Monjas
Un lugar con encanto que se descubre como el último resto del antiguo Convento del Sacramento
Madrid es una ciudad llena de jardines secretos, el conocido como “Huerto de las monjas” es llamado así por hallarse en el lugar donde en otro tiempo estuvo el patio del Convento del Sacramento.
El Convento fue fundado por don Cristóbal Gómez de Sandoval, más conocido como Duque de Uceda y valido de Felipe III, quien lo mandó a construir en 1615 muy cerca de su propio palacio.
Desgraciadamente el convento y su iglesia fueron destruidos durante la guerra civil. Reconstruido en los años 40 donde continuarían viviendo las Bernardas Descalzas hasta que el convento fue demolido en 1976. En su lugar se construirían pisos modernos que a día de hoy ocupan el número 7 de la Calle del Sacramento.
Entre las viviendas y oficinas podemos encontrar este bello oasis de paz protegido por un muro que lo separa de la Calle Segovia y que forma el único resto que queda de ese antiguo convento.
Sin duda lo que hace tener más encanto a este lugar es la fuente que se encuentra en el centro. Es una fuente de bronce compuesta por cuatro querubines llamada “Fuente de la priora”. Por lo visto la procedencia de la fuente es de la Finca “El Castañar” que tenían los duques de Montellano en Toledo y al trasladarse a su palacio en el Paseo de la Castellana se la llevaron consigo.
